A psychological skills training program developed by Veterans for Veterans. In collaboration with Nova Southeastern University and Full Send Sims, we have developed a program to change how mental health is addressed in our participants. World-class racing simulators are used as a stress inoculation tool, and psychologists are trained in self-regulation, such as diaphragmatic breathing. The racing sim allows us to gradually make it more and more difficult to use their techniques.
The Race Camp Program is a 3 phase process we call RIDE, TRAIN, DRIVE.
RIDE
Veteran participants join The Veterans Trust at one of the Race Experiences where they get the opportunity to engage in motorsport activities firsthand.
Whether riding passengers in a professional drift car, high-powered road course car, NASCAR, or one of many other incredible vehicles, the veteran will be fully engaged in the motorsport world. Having the opportunity to meet the drivers, race teams, and many other motorsport experts, they will gain the experience and insight as to whether they would like to partake in the next steps of Race Camp.
TRAIN
Veterans are trained at the outset of their military service to be ready for the call of duty, to be self-reliant, and able to adapt to any situation with the tools in their “tool belt”.
Race Camp is designed as a tool for Veterans to defeat their battles at their own pace and on their own terms. Veterans are trained in self-regulation techniques through various mental health modalities by mental health experts. Additionally, participants received driver coaching inside professionally-built racing simulators by seasoned race instructors.
DRIVE
Ultimately, Veterans will go from a controlled environment inside a racing simulator to the driver seat of an actual race car. This escalation from sim to race car helps us to ingrain the self regulation techniques into our Veterans utilizing real-world scenarios within the motorsports industry.
By being part of this 16-week program, we help participants focus on self regulation and proven alternative therapies to help Veterans cope with life after military service. All while being engaged in car motorsports.
